Arden Kaywin

Arden Kaywin: Private Voice, Vocal Singing Lessons
Arden Kaywin is one of the few voice professionals able to bridge the gap between classical “bel canto” vocal technique and the demands of the contemporary singer. Her career experience as both a conservatory trained classical singer and a contemporary pop recording artist & songwriter gives her a unique perspective well suited to technically nurture and artistically inspire the vocal artists she works with.

As a singer and recording artist herself, Miss Kaywin’s experience on both sides of the microphone is extremely valuable to her clients. She is an accomplished pop singer/songwriter with songs featured on numerous television shows on MTV, NBC, ABC and The CW networks, including the show Deliver Me on Discovery Channel for which she wrote and performed the theme song. Accolades include a nomination for Pop Song of the Year by the Independent Music Awards, Musiqtone’s Indie Artist of the Year Award, Next Big Hit - Top 10 Albums of 2008, and Rockwired Reader’s Poll Best Album, Best Female Artist, and Best Song “Let It Go”.

Miss Kaywin is also an accomplished classical singer having performed roles with major opera companies across the country including Opera Theater of St.Louis, The San Francisco Opera, Brooklyn Academy of Music, and The Aspen Opera Theater.

ACTORS:  Arden Kaywin provides singing instruction for actors of all disciplines and across the various mediums of television, film and musical theater. Actors in Los Angeles have many more jobs available to them if they are comfortable singing. Her lessons focus on the needs of each individual performer and the ways in which they would like to incorporate singing into their career. For example, many actors feel ambushed when  extemporaneously asked to sing in an audition.  Arden helps actors gain a sense of confidence about their singing voice through her lessons with them, enabling them to connect their instincts as a performer with the technical requirements of singing.  Arden believes that it is crucial for actors to learn to connect to their breath energy. For many actors in Los Angeles, their work with a voice teacher in voice lessons has a way of reinforcing and expanding their work in acting classes. Arden has been working with the actors of the New York Film Academy at their Los Angeles campus in Hollywood and the actors of the X Repertory Theater in downtown Los Angeles as part of their Studio Intensive Acting Conservatory. She teaches a performance class called “Singing For Actors”, and has seen first hand how their singing training has contributed to huge breakthroughs in their acting.

ABOUT PRIVATE VOICE LESSONS:  Arden Kaywin offers private voice lessons and coaching in Los Angeles for those who want to learn a more open, powerful and free  expression through their singing voice. Arden’s style of voice teaching is based on a process that focuses on addressing the individual talents and challenges of the student singer. There are certain basic principles and techniques which make that process more clear. Arden’s teaching philosophy maintains that with a few simple tools learned over the course of private voice lessons, anyone can learn to sing and anyone can learn to access more power and freedom in their voice. For the majority of singers, taking private voice lessons enables the fastest and most dramatic results because of the one-on-one nature of the student teacher interaction. Arden aims to provide a “safe space” where students feel free to experiment and explore the full potential of their singing voices.

The best time to start private voice lessons is when you are free from the pressure of having a looming performance or audition on the near horizon. Waiting until the ninth hour to find a good voice teacher and start exploring the full potential of your instrument is not the best plan. It can lead to tension and stress in the learning process which can inhibit the full realization of your vocal and singing goals. The more time you take in advance to learn the ins and outs of your singing technique and your instrument, the more successful you will be in finding power and freedom of voice when it counts.

Arden’s goal as a voice teacher is to help her students realize their full potential as they develop their singing voice. In the lessons, she teaches her voice students efficiency of breath and how the mechanism of breath support works. She gives her voice students tools for undoing vocal tensions and bad habits that get in the way of the most efficient production of sound, tools for finding and maximizing their resonance, and ways to connect to the emotional content of the music so that they no longer connect emoting with manipulating their breath, voice or pushing their sound. Through working with Arden as a voice teacher and through commitment to voice lessons on a regular basis, students gain vocal confidence, balanced resonance, reliable breath support, and the ability to communicate more freely and expressively with their singing voice.

"I don't want anything to get in the way of me and my singing." - Bobby McFerrin

HEALING VOCAL PROBLEMS:  Do you often loose your voice or find a scratchy, “horse” tone getting in the way of reaching your goals as a singer? An experienced voice teacher can help train you to develop new, efficient and healthy vocal habits. In addition to training singers in vocal techniques that will help them realize their most free and resonant sound, Arden is also a voice teacher sought out by students to help them fix specific vocal and singing problems like a warbling vibrato, “stuck” breath, compressed strident tone, extreme tongue tension, and flimsy or muffled resonance. Generally, none of these conditions are permanent and they can be ameliorated over time by working one-on-one in private voice lessons with an experienced voice teacher.

A DIVERSE COMMUNITY OF SINGERS
As a voice teacher in Los Angeles, Arden’s students range from those who are just beginning to explore singing through voice lessons to those with extensive experience, many years of vocal training, and even professional singing credits in Los Angeles and across the country. Some students have never taken voice lessons before. Some have extremely successful singing careers but want to take voice lessons with a private voice teacher in order to brush up and polish their technique. Other students have a studied voice in the past and want to resume their vocal growth with a new voice teacher.  Actors in Los Angeles often come to take voice lessons with Arden because they are cast in a role that requires them to sing and Arden helps them prepare.  Actors also take singing lessons because they don’t like feeling ambushed when asked to sing extemporaneously in an audition and want more confidence in their singing voice. There are also those who come to Arden for private voice lessons as a recreational pursuit having a love of music, singing and performing.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM AN EXPERIENCED VOICE TEACHER

An experienced voice teacher and vocal coach will help their students realize the full potential of their instrument by clearly imparting methods and tools for the voice student to access all facets of their voice. A good voice teacher will not dictate one, homogeneous way that all singers should sound. Rather, through the process of lessons, an experienced teacher like Arden will help each individual find his/her own unique sound and give them a healthy technique to strengthen it. The kind of approach that a voice teacher uses will generally vary a great deal depending on the strengths and weaknesses of each voice student. There isn't a formula, however there are universally accepted principles of healthy singing technique which an experienced voice teacher will base their methods on. Knowledgeable and experienced voice teachers and coaches will tailor their teaching methods to each student, taking into account his/her individual challenges.
